DID YOU KNOW...? African Animals 1


Did you know... when zebras run together, their stripes confuse predators because no two zebras have the same stripes meaning that predators don't know which one to attack first.

Did you know... that ostriches have the second largest eyes of any animal and have the largest eyes of any land animal but there brain's the size of a peanut !!!!!

Did you know... lemurs only live in Madagascar and nowhere else in the world.

Did you know... mini chameleons can fit on your fingertip !!

Did you know ... a fossa is as long as a man is tall. Fossas are known to eat lemurs.

Did you know... people hunt African elephants for their ivory. This is called poaching.

Did you know... the largest land animal is the African elephant and they live in 37 different countries of Africa.

Did you know... in the early 1900s there were around 3-5 million African elephants. However, in the 1980s, there was a huge massacre and a 100,000 elephants were killed each year for that decade. Now, there are only 415,000 left and decreasing.

Did you know... African elephants can weigh up to 6 tonnes and be as tall as 3.4 meters.

Did you know... the Goliath frog is known to be the largest living frog on Earth and can be 32cm long.

Did you know... penguins can live in Africa. They really love the hot weather, a bit like tourists!!

Did you know... the cheetah is the fastest land animal. Cheetahs run at speeds of 70-75mph in only 3.5 seconds, though they can only maintain it for 20-30 seconds.

Did you know... aardvarks can eat in one meal 50,000 ants!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aardvarks also eat a special fruit called the aardvark cucumber which grows underground.

Did you know... from 8 km away a lion's roar can be heard.

Did you know... if a human ate 190 half-pound stakes per day it would be equivalent to what a male lion eats per day!!!!!

Did you know... lions have a white line under their eye which helps lions see 8 times better than humans at night

Did you know... leopard cubs are born blind but they get their vision after a few days.
